Australia is regularly affected by severe weather events. These events are growing in frequency and severity, leading to increased economic impact, vulnerability and potential magnitude of harm. To address this, the Bureau of Meteorology is undergoing a significant transformation to deliver a more customer centric, unified and resilient national operation. This is an exciting strategic direction for the Bureau which will transform the way we deliver services to Australian communities.

The Bureau of Meteorology is developing and growing its Community Engagement capability, with a focus on public safety and effective risk management.

The exciting focus of this team is to build resilience within Australian communities, our critical sector partners, and across the Bureau. As part of the Decision Support Services program, we seek to strengthen sector-wide capability across agencies, working with partners to equip, mobilise and integrate communities in preparation for, response to and recovery from disasters and emergencies. We provide specialist advice through knowledge sharing, collaborative action and the development of strong relationships built on mutual trust and respect.

As a Community Engagement Officer (all capital cities with the exception of Canberra), you will have exciting opportunities to contribute to community engagement planning, research, analysis, reporting, and implementation activities to support the development and delivery of national and regional resilience initiatives. The roles will work as part of the cross-functional teams that support our critical sector partners, with focus on engaging the public on emergency management capability. You will work closely with your colleagues in Hazard Preparedness and Response to deeply understand the impact of severe weather events that impact the Australian Community, and the Bureau's key customers.
