Roles and responsibilities

  • Oversee the publication, editing and design processes to ensure the production of highquality, objective, accurate, influential and timely content, ready for publication on IEEFA's website and for distribution to stakeholders
  • Edit research outputs to convey key messages clearly and ensure they have cohesive narratives
  • Manage performance, wellbeing and daytoday issues for a growing communications team
  • Communicate and collaborate with analysts to ensure that written content is of high quality and aligned with IEEFA's publication style, editorial policy, and publishing specifications
  • Oversee quality assurance of IEEFA content, including factchecking of research as well as accurate formatting and branding
  • Develop and implement messaging strategy across our research, based on an understanding of our research content, audiences, partners and strategic goals
  • Collaboratively identify the most appropriate products (reports, commentaries, fact sheets etc) to achieve our strategic goals
  • Write highquality and engaging press releases for reports
  • Collaborate with other IEEFA team members in the development and implementation of internal and external communication objectives
  • Keep abreast of key developments in energy and finance research

Required Qualifications

  • Eight or more years of current affairs or business/economic journalism and publishing/editing experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Journalism, English, or a related field
  • Organised and can manage time and priorities effectively across competing demands
  • Advanced knowledge and experience working in digital publishing suites such as Microsoft Office and Adobe
  • Experience in communicating effectively with other members of a remote team over a variety of mediums (video calls, Slack, Gsuite, ClickUp etc.)
  • Commitment to IEEFA's mission to accelerate the transition to a diverse, sustainable, and profitable economy

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ability to interpret complex financial and energy developments quickly and make them understandable to a broad audience
  • Editorial experience in finance, energy or a related field or working for a nonprofit organisation is favourable
  • Understanding of government and finance audiences is favourable

Compensation and Benefits


Full-time 12-month fixed-term employment contract with the option of extension by mutual agreement; Remuneration $110,000 - $120,000 base, plus super (negotiable with more experience).

Our competitive benefits package includes annual leave (20 days per year), personal/carer's leave (10 days per year), an Employee Assistance Program (EAP), a home office set-up stipend, a monthly mobile phone allowance, and technology equipment provided.


Work Schedule
Full-time, 38 hours/week with occasional evening or weekend work may be required.


Location and Travel
The Editor will work remotely and may be based anywhere in Australia. Some travel is required. All global team members attend IEEFA's annual conference and international team retreat in the USA. Quarterly in-person team meetings alternate between Sydney and Melbourne.


Physical Demand and Work Environment
Must be able to work for prolonged periods at a computer. Computer work can involve repetitive motion, eyestrain, back, and neck strain.
