Who we are

The Environmental Policy Integration Branch (EPIB) currently works directly to the four Deputy Secretaries responsible for the environment, water and protected area groups within the portfolio, environment and heritage, environmental and First Nations heritage protection reforms, biodiversity markets, economics, environmental science, and water, and Parks Australia and the Antarctic.

Acknowledging the scale and breadth of reform across the environment, heritage, water and protected area groups, the EPIB is a new branch, established to:

  • create an overarching architecture to provide clarity and transparency of the major reforms to ensure integrated delivery of the entire program of priority work,
- identify risks to delivery, and establish shared approaches and solutions to manage risks, and
- establish governance and reporting to track delivery to support our collective success.

There are three main components to the work of EPIB:

  • Identifying and tracking performance of the priority key projects (including individual project tasks, milestones and success measures) that will collectively deliver on the Minister for the Environment and Water's Nature Positive agenda.
  • Establishing and managing enabling architecture (including governance) to track and support delivery of this integrated program of work across divisions driving improved outcomes across the whole.
  • Supporting the departments regular engagement with the Minister and her Office.

The roles provide a unique opportunity to help implement complex and significant programs and reforms that will make a difference to Australia's nature.

You will form extensive networks within and beyond the Environment Policy Integration Branch and work with a passionate virtual team across environment, water and protected area groups to support delivery of the Minister's priority projects in her Nature Positive Agenda.

You will also be in a unique position, working with the Minister's Office, Deputy Secretaries, Division Heads and across the four environment and, water and protected area groups to support a range of integration, strategic coordination, secretariat, governance, and policy functions.

Whilst the branch is based in Canberra, we are open to staff working remotely from across the country under the flexible working arrangements policy.

This will require the branch to work in a hybrid environment. The EPIB are looking for staff to join both sections of the branch.

The Branch is not currently housed within a division but reports directly to deputy secretaries.

There are two types of positions within the branch that are being advertised - both at the APS 6 level.
