Role:


The Careers and Student Pathways Counsellor will work under the direction of the Director of Student Pathways with a focus on implementing, establishing and managing an effective student pathways case management and careers counselling program.

The Pathways team is ably supported by a full time administration officer.


As well as attending to the duties required within this ES range, the Careers and Student Pathways Counsellor is assigned specific responsibilities for which they are primarily responsible to undertake.


These include co-ordination of the College's:
i. Vocational Education and Training (VET) program; and

ii. Work Experience and College wide Career Education programs.

The Careers and Student Pathways Counsellor will also be responsible for:

  • Working as a key member of the Mount Ridley P-12 College Education Support team and contributing to the promotion of Mount Ridley P-12 College as an integral part of the community;
  • The ability to manage multiple tasks and be a selfstarter. Personal qualities of objectivity, sensitivity and integrity, along with strong levels of initiative, will be required. The appointee will have excellent communication skills;
  • Working in conjunction with the Director of Student Pathways and the relevant Assistant Principal and will be responsible for leading staff to achieve College goals, priorities and targets related to student pathways; and
  • At the request of the Executive Leadership Team, perform duties that will assist in the delivery of improved learning and teaching practices and the efficient functioning of the College.

Responsibilities:


Specific portfolio tasks will include:
VET Program

  • Ensuring all VET associated policies, memorandums of understanding and documentation remain current.
  • Maintaining updated VET information which records staff qualifications and training experience.
  • Organising work placements and the associated administrative tasks for students undertaking work placements which form part of their VET programs.
  • Ensuring all VET certificates and statements of attainment are correctly issued and duly recorded.
  • Supporting the publication of VET handbooks and promotional materials.
  • Delivering an induction program for new VET staff.
  • Reviewing and reporting on Registered Training Organisation (RTO) compliance to both the Director of Student Pathways and the relevant Assistant Principal.
  • Assisting the Director of Student Pathways in making regular presentations at Mini School assemblies on VET and pathways related issues.
  • Coordinating the purchase, storage and usage of VET resources.
  • Attending VET and Student Pathway specific parent/teacher meetings and information evenings.
  • Liaising closely with VET teachers to ensure delivery of their training plans, in particular appropriate assessment methods, recording of results and review of programs.
  • Ensuring students undertaking a VET program are provided with an orientation program.
  • Liaising closely with the Business Manager and Finance Accounts Officers to ensure the efficient management of VET funds.
  • Leading the work of staff involved in delivering VET programs to maintain compliance with quality assurance standards.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Student Pathways, fostering relationships between the College, tertiary institutions and local employers with the aim of establishing a range of VET programs.
  • Organising Careers or Pathways related excursions/incursions where appropriate
Work Experience and College wide Career Education Programs

  • In conjunction with the Director of Student Pathways, continually designing and implementing a whole school approach to career education in line with Victorian Curriculum.
  • Assisting the Director of Student Pathways in leading the continual development and implementation of a Career Education
