We are seeking a highly adaptable and outcomes driven
Supervisor Operations to join the Resource Development team at Rio Tinto.


Reporting to Senior Operations Coordinator, this role will contribute to the achievement of specific business performance objectives through the safe and effective design and execution of mining operations.

Your daily remit will include but not be limited to:

  • Direct supervision of operating employees and deployment of equipment to meet production and safety requirements.
  • Recommends and/or initiates actions involving establishing job expectations, providing direction or work priorities and methods of performing tasks
  • Schedules staff for appropriate work shifts and maintains desired levels of productivity, quality, costs and service
  • Implements production operation plan to maximize productivity while minimizing cost and environmental impact
  • Coordinates the assignment of people and equipment to safely, effectively and efficiently accomplish the plan
  • Contributes to the continuous improvement of the mine and lowering of costs by identifying and implement opportunities for improvement and innovation
  • Ensures compliance with safety standards and procedures

About you

To succeed in this role, you will possess:

  • A proven track record of success in an operational management and team leadership role
  • Risk management and contingency planning
  • Previous Change Management implementation
  • Contractor management experience
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills including the ability to effectively influence, collaborate with and negotiate with contract partners, operational teams, procurement and planning teams
  • Project management experience with partnering mechanical aptitude
  • Continuous improvement (e.g. demonstrated use of process improvement methodologies, leading role in PDP programme, Six Sigma, etc.)
  • Manual C Class driver's license
