Where you'll be working

  • The RAID Emergency Department Social Work position is based within our Critical Care and Surgery Team at Westmead and is responsible for providing a high standard of care to the families of Western Sydney Local Health District.
  • You will be working in a supportive department with a positive team culture which values professional, personal and career development.
  • Minutes from Parramatta CBD, the local area is home to heritage sites, beautiful parks and waterways.
  • Currently undergoing a $1.1 billion redevelopment program, Westmead Hospital, together with its partners, will be one of the largest health, education, research and training precincts in Australia.

What you'll be doing

  • The Critical Care and Surgery Team at Westmead is a team of 11 social workers providing coverage to the areas of Intensive Care, Emergency Department, Trauma, Orthopaedics, General Surgery, Specialty Surgery and Renal Services. The team also includes the District Post Mortem Liaison Officer position and Huntington Disease Outreach roles.
  • Whilst allocated to cover the Surgical Wards, there are opportunities to broaden your skill development as part of team cover and through After Hours Crisis On Call work.

Essential Criteria:


Qualification:
Tertiary qualification in Social Work

Registration:
Eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Work (AASW)


Selection Criteria:


  • Significant clinical experience in Social work, with substantial experience working in the emergency department and/or as a primary contact practitioner treating challenging patients with chronic and complex conditions.
  • Welldeveloped time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing skills and high level computer literacy.
  • Demonstrated understanding of issues associated with working with culturally and linguistically diverse client groups.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of clinical social work policies and procedures and/or guidelines.
  • Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels
  • Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
  • Demonstrated experience in supervision and teaching including clinical supervision and teaching of undergraduate/graduate entry level students
