What you'll be doing
The Patient Safety Manager is responsible for managing patient safety programs within ISLHD.

The Patient Safety Manager under the direction of the Clinical Governance Unit (CGU) support and work in collaboration with managers, clinicians and divisional directors to promote robust patient safety systems and processes in consultation with staff within departments, hospitals, services and divisions.

The Patient Safety Manager promotes the principle that patient safety is the responsibility of all clinicians and managers within the district.

Engage in and support the hub and service business strategy and development of local operating plans relevant to patient safety systems and processes.

Undertake review and analysis of hub and service patient safety performance trends from incident management and performance data to inform the development of proactive systems to improve patient outcomes.

Liaise and partner with hub and service staff to ensure state and district safety and quality frameworks and patient safety programs are implemented within the hubs and services.

Provide expert, technical, practical and educational knowledge in order to implement the ISLHD Clinical Governance Framework and district clinical safety goals.

Contribute towards accreditation events across the district to support compliance with the National Standards relevant to the patient safety portfolio.

All NSW Health workers are required to have completed an up-to-date course of a COVID-19 vaccine (2 doses) which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA).

New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW.

Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Please provide proof of vaccination if available.

_There are two positions available. A temporary full time leave relief position until 05/01/25 and temporary part time 28 hours per week until 23/12/24 with the possibility of extension._

Selection Criteria

  • Recognised qualification in a health field with relevant registration or equivalent experience.
  • Extensive senior and broad range experience in a health care environment including acute care hospital experience.
  • Excellent leadership, written and oral communication, presentation and interpersonal skills demonstrated by: a. The ability to relate to health professionals at all levels and across all disciplines; b. The ability to relate to patients and their carers; c. The ability to manage conflict and contentious situations; and d. The ability to provide compassionate leadership.
  • A sound understanding of, and demonstrated ability to, implement patient safety and clinical quality principles throughout a health organisation combined with a working knowledge of quality management systems used to review and monitor an organisation's performance.
  • Experience, knowledge, and understanding of the Serious Adverse Event Review (SAER) process related to adverse events.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of integrated clinical risk and quality management processes used to review and monitor the LHD's patient safety performance program.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate without supervision and manage multiple projects concurrently.
