  • Demonstrated highlevel school facilities and grounds management and maintenance experience (or school equivalent)
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage the work of other staff and contractors to develop procedures, guidelines and calendars relating to maintenance of an organisation or school facilities
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in organising and determining work priorities required of the School Maintenance Manager position. This will include the flexibility and responsiveness to undertake unscheduled or emergency work
  • Sound knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Management Systems and Work Safe procedures to identity, manage and provide solutions to risks identified within the school
  • Demonstrated capacity to use ICT platforms that are designed to manage the maintenance, repairs and service schedules of the school (or school equivalent)
  • Demonstrated commitment to professional learning and growth for both self and others

Role:

Attendance during school term breaks may be required through liaison with the Principal, on a needs basis.


The School Maintenance Manager is responsible for the effective upkeep of the grounds and buildings and ensures that Occupational Health and Safety regulations are met.

They will be responsible in ensuring that all OHS regulations are followed.


The School Maintenance Manager works collaboratively with the Business Manager and other members of the Principal team to help ensure that the Asset Information Management System (AIMS) and the Essential Safety Measures (ESM) requirements are met.


An education support class role at this range is distinguished by the introduction of management responsibility and accountability for the delivery of services.

At this level, an employee may direct and supervise the work of other staff members to achieve specific objectives in school administration, operations or educational programs.


An education support class position supports the educational services being provided to students but must not include duties of a teacher as defined in clause 2.6.1 of the Education and Training Reform Act 2006 (Vic) or its successor.

Supervision of students can be required where it is an integral part of the employee¿s position or in circumstances where supervision is required individually or in groups up to 4 in controlled circumstances and where the responsibility for students remains clearly with a teacher.


Responsibilities:

The School Maintenance Manager is an important role with 'hands on¿ responsibility for facility improvement, maintenance and minor repairs.

Typical duties include, but are not limited to, the following:


  • Demonstrating excellent communicate skills with students, parents, staff and goods and services providers
  • Working through a schedule of regular tasks and maintenance audits within a maintenance schedule
  • Plan and implement the Asset Information Management System (AIMS) and Essential Safety Measures (ESM) Program requirements, reporting to the Business Manager
  • Supervise the work of maintenance and grounds and delivery of contracted services
  • Coordinate contractors onsite and conduct contractor inductions, ensuring that all contractors are fully compliant before attendance onsite
  • Manage the school¿s relationship with cleaning contractors, ensuring high standards are continually met
  • Attend facilities subcommittee meetings
  • Participate in relevant training and professional learning
  • Be familiar with the mechanical and electrical systems of the school and keep operational manuals current. Arrange for regular servicing of equipment
  • Use online programs such as AIMS to manage compliance, maintenance, and any routine inspections at the direction of the Business Manager
  • Participate in OHS and routine essential safety inspections, as a member of the OHS Team
  • Be familiar with, and contribute to, the Emergency Management Plan and evacuation and lockdown processes
  • Respond to any emergency situations in an appropriate manner and undertake such other duties as may be required, noting such activities may be outside normal working hours or on weekends
  • Regular monitoring of security, ie: open windows, unlocked doors, intruders and vandalism
  • Oversee daily maintenance requests and prioritise works in order of urgency
  • Take a hands on approach in performing daily maintenance tasks whenever required which will include removal of graffiti, emergency maintenance, cleaning, deliveries and general repairs
  • Set up and pack up areas for school functions
  • Order equipment and supplies and oversee the distribution of assets relating to the management of facilities
  • Be responsible for the unlocking and unalarming of the School if Out of School Hours Care are not operatin
