About the Organisation


The City of Port Phillip is an inner-city council with around 1000 employees who deliver more than 100 programs and services to our residents, businesses, and visitors.

These range from childcare and immunisations, to libraries, management of parks and open space, rubbish collection, road maintenance and more.

About the Role

  • This is a specialist role leading the integrated Council response to Community Safety balancing outcomes of amenity, inclusion, safety, and city vibrancy.
  • This position will be responsible for supporting the development and implementation of the Community Safety and Wellbeing plan
  • This position requires a highly motivated leader, with strong stakeholder skills as well as a demonstrated capacity to develop strategic responses to complex community safety matters. Success will come from working collaboratively with all stakeholders (internal/external) and building a culture within the organisation where community safety matters are addressed through environmental and codesign.

Duties:


  • Responsible for the development and delivery of policies and plans that will provide the framework for the management of Community safety within the municipality, including the Community Safety and Wellbeing Plan.
  • Assist in the development and coordination of an integrated, cross organisational approach to the planning and delivery of services and programs for Community Safety.
  • Prepare advice, information and reports to a diverse audience, including community, other staff, executive management and Councillors
  • Provide input on capital works and renewal projects to ensure Community Safety and CPTED principles are included in all planning.
  • Responsible for the delivery of the Public Safety CCTV Policy and mobile CCTV program.

Skills and Experience

  • Relevant experience in managing community safety outcomes through the development, implementation and review of policies and strategies
  • Sound knowledge around the use of Crime prevention Through Environmental Design principles in enhancing community safety in the city
  • Experience in project management and evidencebased planning, implementation, measurement and evaluation of successful community development program initiatives that have impacted diverse communities.
  • Experience in advocacy and demonstrated ability to influence multiple stakeholders at different levels including liaising with senior management, Councillors, community members and other stakeholders, particularly in a change environment.
  • Comprehensive understanding of local government's role and the broader policy framework on community safety issues.
