About BB Line 1 Risk Chapter:

Our BB Line 1 Risk Chapter partners with Product teams to help them achieve their strategic goals, with a focus on achieving NPS +30.

The Risk Chapter is responsible for ensuring appropriate end to end risk management that facilitate well informed business decisions. This is achieved by identifying, understanding, and effectively managing risk, including emerging risks. The effective design and implementation of controls, ensuring operational risk & compliance frameworks are effectively implemented within the business. Finally, business stakeholders have appropriate oversight and governance of the risk and control environment. This role will report to the Line 1 Risk Chapter Area Lead, in the Business Bank Chief Controls Office.

As the Risk Chapter Lead for Business Lending, you'll be responsible for leading, coaching and supporting development of your people and people capability across the Chapter Area.

As a key partner to Business Lending, you will foster a proactive risk and control culture enabling the business to deliver great customer outcomes safely.


You'll ensure strong controls are in place and that all risk and control related decisions are well informed, timely, socialised and agreed with business stakeholders.

This is achieved through providing an end to end risk and control service, including the effective design & implementation of controls, ensuring the operational risk & compliance frameworks are effectively implemented.

You will also ensure each BU LT has the right level of comfort and governance within their risk environment.


Your day could look like but not limited to:

  • Engage and advise business leaders to effectively manage their risk, compliance obligations and business operations within risk appetite.
  • Lead the provision of insightful business intelligence to accountable business leaders, governing forums and committees, to create transparency of risk outcomes.
  • Advocate for and advise the business on using appropriate tools, strategies practices and frameworks to enable execution of risk reduction and proactive risk management.
  • Consult on recommendations for the business to prioritise investments, interventions and enhancements to mitigate risk.
  • Lead the team to execute on the Risk strategy aligned to the business, overseeing implementation and governance initiatives
  • Champion and drive continuous improvement of the risk and control environment through the use of insights and reporting.
  • Accountable for testing the design and operating effectiveness of the Controls Assurance Program (CAP) by regularly ensuring that key risks are being appropriately mitigated, including oversight of test scripts.
  • Work in an agile manner and across disciplines to facilitate rapid response to issues, near misses, and emerging risks or threats to resilience.
  • Proactively detect and anticipate responses to changes in the internal and external risk landscape that may impact the business risk profile.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct. The Code of Conduct sets the standards of behaviour, actions and decisions we expect from our people.
  • Overall accountability for driving a proactive risk and control culture, motivate and inspire a team of risk and control professionals.

We're interested in people who have:

  • Extensive experience in financial services, preferably lending, and strong risk management expertise
  • Strong people leadership skills, including expectation setting, coaching, and performance management
  • Demonstrated commercial acumen; ability to recommend practical solutions and question the status quo considering and balancing the needs of various stakeholders
  • Strong communication skills: ability to read, analyse, and communicate written and verbal information succinctly with impact
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, research and problem solving skills; ability to analyse trends, identify threats and opportunities, diagnose problems and issues and recommend appropriate actions that deal with underlying root causes
  • Demonstrated success in driving continuous improvement.
