Your day as a
Principal Economist / Principal Policy Analyst


Your typical day-to-day work includes leading the delivery of high-quality analysis and advice in relation to long term opportunities and challenges facing the State, supporting government decision making and policy development.

The role may include quantitative and qualitative analysis of economic and fiscal trends and projections; delivering policy advice or independent research around the most significant long-term challenges and opportunities facing NSW (including housing, technology, health, education, labour market, and environment); and managing priority projects across multiple teams and agencies.


In this role, you will lead the technical work of the team, including on the development and maintenance of quantitative models, including NSW Treasury's Intergenerational Report Model (TIGR), to draw insight from data, and to maintain and improve Treasury analysis of the long-term opportunities and risks that the State faces.


This role liaises extensively with other areas within Treasury, with NSW government agencies and with peers in other jurisdictions across Australia, as well as with stakeholders outside of government.


Achieve success as
Principal Economist / Principal Policy Analyst
To be successful in this role, there are a few things we expect you to possess:

  • experience in providing policy advice and/or economic analysis in a data driven environment with strong customer focus.
- tertiary qualifications, preferably in economics, finance or other relevant disciplines and/or experience in a relevant field.
