Primary Purpose:


The Media and Communications Manager is accountable to the Assistant Chief Fire Officer Community Safety and Resilience for managing the development and implementation of a range of innovative and effective marketing, communication, media management, public relations and branding projects, campaigns and activities that support the achievement of MFS strategic goals and objectives.

In this capacity the position is responsible for leading the development of a broad range of communications materials, publications and documents that strengthen the agency's corporate profile, and significantly support the effective management of emergency incidents and public safety issues.


The position manages the delivery of extensive liaison, consultation, and the provision of advice and guidance, to key internal and external stakeholders, including liaising with the public and media in order to provide essential information in a timely and appropriate manner.

The Media and Communications Manager also delivers expert advice and guidance to MFS staff and managers in order to ensure the delivery of communications outcomes that meet corporate objectives and comply with all relevant legislation and guidelines.


Additionally, the position contributes expert input into the strategic planning and policy development activities of the Community Safety and Resilience Department.

The position manages the provision of an after-hours Media Liaison capability for the MFS and provides media support staff with effective training, guidance and assistance.

The position addresses a range of complex and sensitive issues and relevant media training requirements.


Essential Qualifications:


Must have relevant tertiary qualifications in one or more of the following disciplines: corporate communications, public relations, media relations, journalism or related fields.

$95,588 - $101,109
