Research Governance Officer - The Kirby Institute

  • Employment Type: Parttime (14 hours per week)
  • Duration: 12 month fixed term contract
  • Remuneration: $106,351 $115,103 Full time equivalent, salary will be prorata + 17% Super and leave loading
  • Location: Kensington, NSW (Hybrid working, work from home and from UNSW Sydney campus)

Why Your Role Matters:


As a Research Governance Officer, you will work to obtain new and ongoing human research ethics committee (HREC), governance, and data linkage approvals for several existing and new studies.

The research includes studies of cervical cancer prevention, cancer risk after medically assisted reproduction, care and outcomes after a diagnosis of cancer of unknown primary site, and the care and outcomes of adolescents and young adults after a cancer diagnosis.

You will provide administrative support to these studies and support the lead investigators to deliver on the research objectives, including reporting to funding agencies.

You will be required to liaise with key internal and external stakeholders including ethics committees, data custodians, and data linkage units.

The role reports to the Head, Integrated Data for Health Equity Group and has no direct reports.


Who You Are:


  • Relevant tertiary qualification with subsequent relevant experience or equivalent competence gained through any combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Proven health research governance or health research project coordination experience at a minimum of 3 years, with an indepth understanding of the NHMRC National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Human Research and other relevant guidelines and codes of practice.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and productively within a team, but also to take initiative and work independently.
  • Excellent time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
