We are seeking an enthusiastic and qualified technical team lead, with operational planning and logístical expertise.

You take pride in developing and mentoring staff. Your strong teamwork abilities ensure you can empower and inspire the remote teams you are responsible for managing.


The prospect of short-term opportunities to travel and work in Antarctica, as well as other parts of Australia excites you.

You have a passion for the Australian Antarctic program.

You have strong communication skills to support your remote team, negotiate and manage stakeholder relationships, and leverage emotional intelligence.


Who are we?
The Hobart Operations Hub is one of the Bureau of Meteorologys premier technical operations centres.

Staff based at the Hobart Operations Hub travel far and wide utilising 4WDs, planes, ships, and helicopters to maintain service delivery within the various instrumentation networks.


  • Doppler Rain Radars
  • Automatic Weather Stations (AWS)
  • Sea Level Monitoring Stations
  • Wave Buoys
  • Satellite ground reception and space weather instruments
  • Flood warning and rainfall monitoring systems
  • Cooperative observers, volunteer rainfall stations
  • Communications, telemetry and instrumentation systems


Hobart Operations Hubs immediate area of responsibility encompasses Tasmania & its offshore Islands, Mawson, Davis and Casey Antarctic stations and Macquarie Island station.


We are part of a national maintenance workforce and there is every likelihood of travel to other parts of Australia on occasion to support the other seven Hubs around the country.


We offer specialised, in-house competency-based training on all our equipment and will ensure you have the necessary tools and skills to undertake this work.
