A unique and exciting opportunity has arisen with the position of Clinical Perfusionist Grade 2 (new graduates encouraged to apply) becoming available at St Vincent's Melbourne.
The Clinical Perfusionist, under the guidance of the Chief Clinical Perfusionist, will be responsible for the delivery of expert clinical care and service delivery.
Working as part of a small, high functioning team, the Clinical Perfusionist will be responsible for perfusion and associated services to cardiac surgery and other disciplines as required.
The team will be the sole provider of the Extra Corporeal Services to and within SVHM.
The Clinical Perfusionist will be responsible for ensuring their own professional development in order to maintain expert clinical skills and advanced knowledge.
Duties include:
- Provision of a sterile and suitable Cardio Pulmonary Bypass (CPB) circuit for each patient
- Suitable set up and priming of the CPB circuit
- Provision of intra
- High level of communication skills within the surgical team including the cardiac surgeon, cardiac anaesthetist and nursing staff
- Provision of a supporting role within the operating theatre, should the patient require prolonged care in the form of ECMO, as requested by the cardiac surgeon
- Provide autologous blood salvaging for cardiac surgeries or any other surgical procedures requiring this service
- Manage and or participate in the departmental research projects
- Development of research methodology and evaluation of new products and equipment
- Participate in production and presentation of oral and written presentations by the Perfusion unit
- Participate in lectures and continued education programs
- Record and store information both printed and electronic relating to all of the above accountabilities for the time relevant to SVHM
The applicant should either be an Australian and New Zealand Certified Perfusionist or other certification recognised as equivalent by the Australia and New Zealand Board of Perfusion.
