BRISBANE, QLD / ENGINEERING / BRISBANE, QLD / ENGINEERING / FULL TIME

About the role

Are you an experienced hydrogen researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you like solving problems within a constrained, fast paced environment? Does helping an emerging player create a cost-effective and transformative path between renewable energy and multiple large industrial sectors appeal to you? If you have exceptional talent and a vision for a clean and more secure energy future, we want to talk.

We are seeking an exceptional researcher to join our R&D team and contribute to the design, test and advancement of our electrolyser and fuel cell systems.

You will be working at the detailed technical level to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the physical and electrochemical processes happening within our equipment, and how we can make them even better.

Everything you do will have a commercial focus, so in addition to conducting traditional benchtop science experiments or mixing up chemical substances, you can expect daily conversations with the engineering and manufacturing teams where you will contribute to the build and test of products and help to troubleshoot issues.

This is a hands-on role that requires you to tackle complex technologies and processes. Through lived experience you understand some of the more nuanced challenges of electrolyser and fuel cell systems. You use this knowledge to improve our offering and help educate our broader team.

You're equal parts creative, inquisitive and disciplined. You know how to carry out research professionally and have actually done it in the past.

You sweat the small stuff and are personally driven to achieve a high standard of work and elevate your peers.

You have excellent problem solving skills as well as an affinity for tackling complex technologies.

What you'll be doing every day

  • Designing and testing of electrolyser and fuel cell technologies at a cell, stack and system level
  • Investigating new pathways to improve performance and meet technical goals of catalysts, bipolar plates, GDL/LDLs, CCMs and MEAs
  • Evaluate and manipulate the chemical properties of various substances used in the fabrication of new products; and design, model, evaluate, and implement chemical processes, instrumentation, and equipment to ensure effectiveness in engineering and design
  • Perform trials, tests, and/or experiments to support engineering, production, and/or R&D activities
  • Data handling and analysis
  • Design, setup, and execute experimental test programs, contribute to analytical and simulationbased studies of lowcarbon energy systems, and maintain strong communication with internal stakeholders

What you need

  • Degree qualifications in electrochemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, science or related fields
  • Substantial experience working in commercial research and development environments or in industryled academic projects
  • A self disciplined approach to planning, executing, documenting and communicating research programs and experimental design
- 'Hands on' experience assembling stacks and testing systems

  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills

Essential skills

  • Degree qualifications in electrochemistry, chemical engineering, materials engineering, chemistry, science or related fields
  • 5 years + working in commercial research and development environment or in industryled academia projects
  • In a prior role has met technical goals of catalysts, bipolar plates, GDL/LDLs, CCMs and MEAs
  • 5 years + experience with assembly of stacks and testing systems
  • Excellent English written and verbal communication skills
