The Rehabilitation Unit is a vital service, helping our patients return to health and independence as soon as possible after injury, illness or surgery.


As a Patient Care Assistant (PCA), you will be an integral multi-disciplinary team member providing a high standard of care for patients our patients including, patient transport and support of the nursing/midwifery care team as directed.

The Patient Care Assistant carries out their duties as directed by, and under the supervision of, a Registered Nurse/Midwife.

The Position

  • Transport patients to all areas of the hospital in accordance with recommended safe practices (any mode of transport including bed and wheelchair)
  • Assists with patient mobility, transfers and positioning in accordance with occupational safety and health practices, using manual handling equipment such as hoists and slide sheets under the direction of the Registered/Enrolled Nurse/Midwife
  • Maintain tidy patient care environment
  • Remove clinical care equipment and supplies from discharge rooms as relevant to area of work
  • Strip, clean and restock discharge beds/trolleys/cubicles/bathrooms as relevant to area of work
  • Prepare the meal table, open packages and ensure patient is positioned to eat and drink.
  • Seek assistance from other caregivers if patient needs help with feeding (e.g. cutting up food)
  • Assists by answering patient call bells and telephone calls in a timely manner, making and tidying patient beds and assist in ensuring patients surroundings are clean and tidy


You will hold a Certificate III in Health Services Assistant or similar or have significant work experience such that meet the competencies and duties of the role.

You will have knowledge of basic cleanliness and hygiene standards, principles of manual handling and food handling skills including hygiene standards.


To succeed you will demonstrate well developed communication and interpersonal skills and able to work a part of a team and have the ability to work with mínimal supervision, able to identify work priorities and plan and meet them, follow instructions from Registered Nurse/Midwives regarding learning requirements and seek assistance to achieve identified goals.

  • Salary: $58,110 to $60,862 pro rata for part time, plus 11% superannuation
