Lead Clocktower Centre team, oversee venue operations, theatre program & hire

The Head of Performing Arts and Asset Development reports to the Manager Arts Culture and Place and is responsible for leading the performing arts in the city of Moonee Valley, primarily through the programming and operation of the Clocktower Centre.

The role leads the Clocktower Centre team, overseeing venue operations, theatre program and theatre hire, as well as the provision of a high level of customer service resulting in a positive experience for patrons and hirers.

This position also has responsibility for Arts venues within the municipality, providing advice on art and artist focused spaces as required.


Key responsibilities and duties will be to:

  • Work with the Head of Visual and Public Art and Head of Festivals and Events to realise the ambitions expressed in _Igniting Creativity_, ensuring the required activities, outcomes and impacts are achieved.
  • Support the Crossfunctional Public Arts Team to enable knowledge sharing, team building and efficiencies.
  • Develop an effective team at the Clocktower Centre.
  • Provide advice and recommendations in all aspects of performing arts and asset development.
  • Lead innovative and continuous improvement processes.
  • Participate in industry forums, advisory committees at internal and external meetings and networks.
  • Produce service planning, prepare reports, develop budgets, establish annual workplans and provide reports.
  • Responsibility for capital renewal budget of the Clocktower Centre.
  • Ensure the Centre is fully utilised and delivers the best return on investment through a combination of community value and maximising revenue.
  • Increase utilisation of creative spaces across the municipality, prioritising spaces for local and emerging artists or creatives.
  • Provide leadership and support in the daytoday operations.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Oversee the management of all technical, stage, catering and venue operations.
  • Oversee and/or directly manage tenders and contracts associated with the asset.
  • Ensure the Centre operational budgets are managed effectively, including monthly forecasting and regular reporting, and oversee accurate processing of invoicing, banking and all procurement processes.
  • Liaise with marketing staff in the development of marketing and communications plans to promote the theatre program, use of the venue and attract new audiences.
  • Supervise and support staff and ensure annual staff performance plans and reviews are undertaken.
  • Guide the programming direction of the venue to ensure increased memberships and attendance at the venue.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with touring companies, producers and networks within the local government and performing arts sectors.


Tertiary qualifications in venue/theatre operations, arts management or theatre production coupled with relevant experience in managing an arts venue preferred.
