An exciting opportunity currently exists for two enthusiastic
Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary & Liver Transplant Surgery Fellow's to join our
Hepatobiliary Transplant Unit from February 2025.



Details of Department
The HPB&T Unit is part of the Division of Surgery, Anaesthesia & Procedural Medicine.

It is responsible for the provision of services within the specialty of HPB and General Surgery to patients across Austin Health, (Austin Hospital and Heidelberg Repatriation Hospital) and tertiary level support to regional Victorian and Tasmanian centres.

In addition, the unit provides state-wide surgical services for liver transplantation and multi-organ retrieval as well as national multi-visceral transplant service through the Victorian Liver Transplant Unit (VLTU).


Details of position/position requirements
The Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary & Liver Transplant Surgery Fellow position aims to provide:

  • Post fellowship training in all aspects of complex HPB surgery.
  • Post fellowship training in all aspects of liver transplantation (recipient and donor operation, assessment, and care).
  • Post fellowship training in General Surgery including emergency on call and surgeries.
  • Opportunities to experience integrated multidisciplinary care in HPB surgery & liver transplantation.
  • Exposure to multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Support and teaching of junior medical staff through direction and management of patients.
  • Opportunities for clinical research and surgical audit

To be successful in this role you must:

  • Hold FRACS in General Surgery or an equivalent overseas fellowship.
  • Display a commitment to Austin Health values.
  • Have registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) (note eligible applicants will be assisted through this process).
  • Demonstrated a commitment to high quality patient care.
  • Be able to demonstrate teamwork and collaboration.
