Description

The Indigenous Student Advisor is required to facilitate access and participation in tertiary study that enhance educational opportunity, retention and positive graduate outcomes while working alongside other Swinburne staff to progress the University's Reconciliation Action Plan.


As part of the Indigenous Student Services team in the Moondani Toombadool Centre, the role is responsible for the delivery, coordination and administration of services to students who identify as Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples.


The Indigenous Student Advisor will provide direct support to students, monitor student progress and facilitate students access to relevant support services including tutors where required.

Additional responsibilities include working cooperatively with indigenous organisations to assist in the development and implementation of recommendations for Indigenous programs, and to support the delivery of Indigenous programs.


About You

To be suitable for this role you will need to have experience in the below key accountabilities:

  • Provide support to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students within VET as follows:
  • Ensure that followup occurs on all referrals and actions initiated in accordance with the Wurreker Implementation Plan and in collaboration with Indigenous Student Services Team.
  • Provide advice and support to VE students throughout their studies.
  • Monitor the progress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander VE students throughout their time at Swinburne
  • Advise on support services available to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander VE students and prospective students within and external to the organisation.
  • Ensure appropriate advice, information and support is provided, compliant with all university policies and procedures.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring support to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander VE students.
  • Work as part of the Moondani Toombadool Centre Indigenous Student Services Team.
  • Ensure referrals to transition support to employment at course completion

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in an education/training setting.
  • A relevant degree or diploma, or demonstrated extensive experience working with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander peoples in an education/training setting.
