We are looking to fill the combined role of Cellar Hand and Vineyard Assistant here at Prophet's Rock in Central Otago.

Suitable experience and relevant industry qualifications are preferred. We are a very small team and everyone's roles are wide-ranging, covering elements across the vineyard, winery, and marketing/sales. The role has a strong emphasis on being adaptable and flexible while working cohesively in a small team structure.

On the winemaking side, we will provide very comprehensive exposure and experience with all facets of production from our estate vineyards.

We produce approximately 150 tonnes/10,000 cases from our three vineyards. Use of indigenous yeast, low extraction, and traditional barrel-to-barrel racking for Pinot Noir are the norm.

The range of wines is varied and includes a Vin de Paille and our 'Cuvée Aux Antipodes' collaboration with Chambolle-Musigny winemaker François Millet.

The winery, and two of our estate vineyards, are in the Bendigo sub-region of Central Otago, the third site is in Pisa.

The closest and most practical town centre is Cromwell.

Job Requirements

Key responsibilities

Cellar - As an integral member of the production team, understand and assist in the winemaking process as required with a particular emphasis on the vintage period at the winery.

Ensure all winemaking equipment is maintained in good working order to not compromise winemaking requirements.

Vineyard - Pruning, shoot & fruit thinning, de-suckering, wire lifting, training of young vines, irrigation, trellis repair, hand harvesting and other seasonal activities.

People management - coach and supervise seasonal staff from time to time.

Industry and public relations - Participate in industry events as and when required.

Health & Safety - Following established procedures to ensure safety in carrying out a given task.

Compliance & Quality control - Assist the winemaker with laboratory operations as required to ensure quality control and to satisfy the requirements of the company's winemaking and bottling standards.

Warehouse work - Assist, as required, to ensure products are packaged in a timely manner and to a high standard.
