The Opportunity

The FOI Officer is responsible for processing requests for information received under the FOI Act to ensure Council adheres to the requirements of the FOI Act. Along with providing high level support and specialist advice to senior management and Council staff in relation to Freedom of Information (FOI) queries and requests.

You will also:

Process applications for access to Council information, maintain status registers, provide guidance and advice with regard to suitable response, and coordinate the receipt and processing of external complaints received.

Prepare reports and develop policies in relation to the areas of responsibility.

Monitor and review processes relating to compliance and statutory obligations under local government legislation

To be successful you will have:

Demonstrated previous experience interpreting legislation and providing governance support services and advice with regard to the FOI Act and legislative governance and compliance.

Effective multi-tasking and time managements skills, experienced in prioritise and planning to meet competing demands.

The ability to gain co-operation and assistance from customers (internal and external), members of the public and other employees in the administration of defined activities.

Strong customer service orientation and highly-developed ethical standards, including the ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion.
