About the role:

Joining GEO Healthcare, the Manager, Aboriginal Health is a key member of the Shared Services Team and will support GEO Healthcare's delivery of Primary Healthcare Services to public prisons in Victoria.

Based at GEO Healthcare's Head Office, located in Melbourne's CBD, you will report to the Director, Clinical Services with the role responsible for GEO Healthcare state-wide Aboriginal Health Programs and providing leadership and support to the Aboriginal Health Worker (AHW) and Aboriginal Health Practitioner (AHP) workforce.

You will develop and maintain effective relationships with Aboriginal controlled training organisations and Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHOs) to enhance the capacity and cultural safety of staff to provide healthcare to Aboriginal people in custody.

You will also ensure the provision of culturally appropriate services to Aboriginal people at GEO Healthcare locations upon release from custody.

You will be responsible for providing expert advice on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness training for all GEO Healthcare staff.

While being supported and led by the Senior Leadership Team, you will contribute to a positive and productive workplace culture and carry out all duties in accordance with the GEO Healthcare Values - Understanding, Respect, Accountability, Teamwork, Excellence.

You will also be required to, at times, attend any of the 13 GEO Healthcare locations.

By successfully contributing to a transition of provider and continuing to deliver and exceed the role's key accountabilities you will actively contribute to a service that will achieve positive healthcare outcomes for people in prison which is a key element in reducing recidivism across the prison system.

Skills and Experience:

Registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency as an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Practitioner or other qualified health professional with a minimum of four (4) years working in primary healthcare or clinical administration.
Capacity to engage and maintain relationships with key stakeholders within the Aboriginal community and the State.
Extensive understanding of the cultural and health needs of the Aboriginal community.
Demonstrated ability to provide leadership and support to achieve better health outcomes for Aboriginal people in prison.

Other Requirements of the role:

Ability to work within a correctional setting, which will involve direct contact with prisoners associated with the delivery of healthcare.
Valid and current full Australian driver's licence.
Satisfactory completion of a National Criminal History Check.
Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
Working outside of ordinary hours may be required.
