About the Role


WesTrac is seeking an experienced safety leader to join our team in the role of Safety Manager - Operations Tomago.

This is a key leadership role and will see the successful applicant drive safety culture and performance across Operations located in Tomago.


Reporting to the Group Manager - Safety, Sustainability and Risk, this position will provide leadership to one Safety Advisor and champion WesTrac's Safety Culture through tailored initiatives and employee/stakeholder engagement.


The successful applicant will be an influential leader, with a demonstrated ability to partner with business leaders to ensure the safety and well-being of all team members and provide valuable insight on safety performance based on data as well as recommendations and guidance to deliver business goals.

This role will be based at Tomago, with some travel to regional sites required.


Key Responsibilities

  • Proactively identifying key risks across operations and advising on appropriate controls and processes
  • Leading continuous improvement projects and collaborating crossfunctionally to embed changes
  • Add value to the organisation through analysing data from WesTrac's Safety Management System and providing reports and recommendations as well as verifying data
  • Provide coaching and leadership to the Safety Advisors
  • Respond to and lead investigation into HSE incidents and take ownership for the implementation of corrective actions
  • Facilitate hazard and risk assessment processes as required
  • Ensure WesTrac complies with all relevant WHS/HSE requirements and that changes are communicated to all key stakeholders
  • Lead safety projects and ensure adequate change management as required
  • Provide advice, assistance and guidance on best practice to continually improve a positive HSE culture
  • Establish genuine and meaningful partnerships with managers, customers and key stakeholders

Skills & Experience

  • Tertiary qualifications in Health and Safety and/or demonstrated experience in WHS
  • Completed ICAM or similar training and considerable experience in leading complex safety investigations
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant WHS legislation, standards and codes of practice including injury management, workers compensation and return to work procedures
  • Natural ability to build rapport and negotiate/influence outcomes
  • Prior experience in the mining and/or construction industry (or similar) is preferred
  • Highly developed analytical and problemsolving skills with ability to provide recommendations and action as required
  • Demonstrated leadership capability
  • Ability to lead and implement safety projects/initiatives
