The purpose of the OzChild's Family Services Programs is to strengthen families' capacity to meet the needs of their children.

These services promote the safety and wellbeing of children by supporting and empowering families to enhance family functioning and therefore improve child outcomes.

Many of the families the program works with have long histories of involvement with Child Protection and community agencies. The service targets families with children newborn to 18 years living in the Southern Melbourne catchment area.

The Team Leader will facilitate the delivery of high level, quality services to children and their families who are considered vulnerable.


The Team Leader will oversee the referrals received by Orange Door as part of the Southern Melbourne Integrated Family Services program which promotes the safety and wellbeing of children and supports and empowers families to fully realise their potential through direct service and by enhancing the service network.


The role may also cover the Family Preservation and Reunification Response which is an evidence-based response aimed at working collaboratively with the Children, Families, Communities and Disability Division to provide an immediate, intensive, and sustained intervention which will provide better support and achieve real and measurable outcomes for vulnerable families.


This Team Leader will support staff to work with families using a relational approach that is adaptable and responsive to family's needs to address individual issues and stressors.

Our strengths-based approach is client centred, integrates the use of evidence informed practice elements like motivational interviewing, communication and parenting, respects self-determination and promotes resilience.


Who we are looking for:


  • Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Community Services, Psychology or similar
  • Knowledge and skills in ensuring the health and protection of children and young people, leadership, and management experience in this context. Knowledge of the Child Protection and Out-OfHome Care system, standards, and practices
  • Experience in developing strengthsbased risk and needs assessments with families and holding risk
  • Solid understanding of the principles and challenges of supporting vulnerable families and knowledge of Child Protection issues in relation to children 'at risk'.
  • An understanding of cultural contexts and the unique needs of Aboriginal children and young people, their families, and communities.
  • Understanding of the broad range of issues impacting on the community services sector.
  • Effective communication and organisational skills.
  • Excellent written skills.
  • Effective network development skills.
