Primary purpose of the role

The position's primary focus is to oversee and coordinate a range of concurrently delivered capital works projects, develop, monitor, and implement strategic asset maintenance plans and coordinate all facilities procurement activities in support repairs and maintenance contracts.


DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Managing, motivating and leading the team in delivering their work, including interactions with students, staff and external parties, in a way that demonstrates the department's cultural traits and the broader ACT Public Service values and signature behaviours.
  • Modelling behaviour that exemplifies the department's cultural traits, directions of the Strategic Compass and the broader ACT Public Service values and signature behaviours.
  • Taking a lead role in the development of local workforce attraction, retention, and succession strategies to ensure the professional development and continuity of the Facilities team.
  • Liaising and negotiating with ACT Government agencies, Commonwealth authorities and private contractors.
  • Working collaboratively with the Senior Manager, Facilities and strategic finance and procurement teams to ensure robust, transparent and effective procurement, project and contract management are applied to all facilities related activity.
  • In consultation with the Senior Manager, Facilities prepare and maintain annual and forecasted preventative Repairs and Maintenance schedules along with any preparation works to support the planning and implementation of capital works projects.
  • In consultation with the broader Facilities Team, maintain and enhance Repairs and Maintenance Procurement Plan as well as lead and coordinate all annual procurement activities.

Qualifications and experience

  • Demonstrated experience in procurement and project management functions in delivering outcomes that align with the organisation's strategic direction.
  • Demonstrated experience in contract management, specifically around accountability practices that maximise the successful achievement of contract milestones and outcomes.
  • Highlevel communication, negotiation and liaison skills to effectively engage with a broad and diverse audience, including students, staff and Senior Executive as well as other government departments, contractors and the private sector.
  • Qualifications and/or extensive experience in procurement and contract management, preferably within the ACT Government or Commonwealth Government
  • Highly desirable.
  • Qualifications and/or extensive experience in project management of facilities related functions/projects
  • Highly desirable.
  • Experience in facilities management in an educational institution
  • Desirable.
