Closing Date: 27/02/2023- Job Type: Temporary- Location: Chisholm- Job Category: Education, Childcare & TrainingSt Bede's Catholic College, Chisholm is seeking a temporary part time (18hrs p/w) Learning Support Assistant to join the team on 6 March 2023 for the remainder of Term 1 with the possibility of extending depending on funding.


St Bede's Catholic College, in the recently established suburb of Chisholm, is a new co-educational Catholic secondary school that is part of the Diocese of Maitland-Newcastle.

The College opened in 2018 and will eventually cater for 1,100 students in Years 7 to 12.

Currently, the College has approximately 800 Year 7-12 students, with the first Year 12 cohort to graduate later this year.

The key components that drive the development of the school are Courage, Knowledge, Community and Faith.

These components align to the four domains of the College's Strategic Plan - Catholic Formation and Mission, Learning and Teaching, Leadership, Wellbeing and Partnerships.


Learning Support Assistants (LSA) in a Catholic school have a unique role to play and are assigned with the task of supporting teachers in ensuring each child has the opportunity to grow both academically and spiritually and to live a purposeful life.


  • Supported by the Catholic community, of which they are a vital part, LSAs support teachers in inviting students and their families into a faithfilled educational experience
  • LSAs support the promotion of the school as a place of learning and excellence where creativity and curiosity are nurtured and students are connected with their world through deep learning and engagement
  • Under the direction of teachers, LSAs provide support and assistance in school routines; classroom activities; and the care and support of students with disability.

Desired Skills and Experience:


EXPERIENCE/CRITERIA

  • Ability to articulate a clear understanding of and a personal commitment to Catholic education and the mission of the Church through Catholic schools
  • Experience working with students with disability (K12)
  • Demonstrated ability to work under the direction of a teacher, and in collaboration with school staff, CSO staff, and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively administer assessments, and deliver interventions, under the direction of a teacher
  • Demonstrated ability to implement adjustments required for individual students and groups of students
  • Experience in supporting student enrolment and transitions, under the direction of a teacher
  • Knowledge about the relevant Disability legislation and the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data
  • Evidence of excellent organisational, interpersonal, and administrative skills

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current paid NSW Working with Children Check (WWCC) number
  • Completion of anaphylaxis training
  • Certificate III or IV in School Based Education Support / or experience in schools (Desirable)

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary is in accordance with New South Wales & Australian Capital Territory Catholic Systemic Schools Enterprise Agreement 2020.
