Project Overview and Role:


The Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme allows eligible Australian businesses to hire workers from 9 Pacific islands and Timor-Leste when there are not enough local workers available.

Through the PALM scheme, eligible businesses can recruit workers for seasonal jobs for up to 9 months or for longer-term roles for between one and 4 years in unskilled, low-skilled and semi-skilled positions.

This helps to fill labour gaps in rural and regional Australia and allows workers to develop skills and send income to support their families and communities.


The IRD Reporting and Data Analyst will be instrumental in elevating the IRD's reporting functions, ensuring data is leveraged to its full potential to support decision-making.

This role entails the creation and refinement of technical documentation, which includes detailing data structures, explaining integrations, and clarifying report functionalities for a diverse range of users.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:Under the direction of the IRD Product Manager, the IRD Reporting and Data Analyst will:

Technical Documentation:

  • Draft and review comprehensive documentation on data structures, integrations, and reporting systems.
  • Create user guides that detail the usage and interpretation of reports and dashboards.
  • Prepare internal documentation to assist IRD team staff in understanding and managing the technical aspects of the IRD system.

Report Research and Design:

  • Collaborate with users to understand reporting needs and requirements.
  • Design and develop new reports, visualisations, and dashboards that provide meaningful insights.
  • Review and redesign existing reports to improve usability and relevance.

Data Analysis for System Improvement:

  • Analyse existing data to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
  • Provide recommendations for system enhancements to ensure data completeness and accuracy.

Cross-team Collaboration:

  • Work with the product and engineering teams to communicate reporting requirements and influence the design of new features.
  • Partner with the training and implementation teams to understand user feedback and incorporate it into report design.

Report Development and Implementation:

  • Assist in the technical development of reporting tools.
  • Oversee the implementation of new reports and dashboards within the IRD system.

Feature Design Assistance:

  • Aid product managers in the design of features and tools that address data quality issues.
  • Contribute to the development of functionalities that enhance data collection and reporting within IRD.

Required Qualifications:

The IRD Reporting and Data Analyst will possess the following qualifications and experience:

  • A degree in data analytics, computer science, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in data analysis and report development.
  • Strong understanding of data structures and standard data formats (e.g., JSON, XML).
  • Experience with SQL and data visualisation tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Minimum of three years in a role focused on data analysis and reporting.
  • Exceptional organisational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of interacting with both technical and nontechnical stakeholders.
  • Experience in agile development environments and familiarity with Scrum or similar methodologies.
