The Clinical Nurse Consultant is a clinical expert (in neurodisability) who, through their leadership, has responsibility for:

  • Providing clinical care and care coordination to people across SESLHD with neurological disabilities (neurodisability) who have end of life and palliative care needs and are in the last 12-24 months of life_. _
  • Lead education to develop the skills, confidence, and experience of mainstream health staff in SESLHD to meet the health needs of people with neurological impairments and disabilities who require palliative care.
  • Providing clinical care and care coordination for patients through supporting with triage and provision of comprehensive heath assessments and supporting care and treatment _for patients living in _the community with a neurodisability who have unmet palliative care needs.
  • Undertake research activities and to undertake strategic planning and capacity building activities

Clinical Nurse Consultant Grade 3:

a registered nurse/midwife appointed as such to a position approved by the public hospital or public health organisation, who has at least 7 years full time equivalent post registration experience, with at least 5 years full time equivalent experience in the specialty field.

In addition the employee must have approved post graduate nursing/midwifery qualifications relevant to the field in which he/she is appointed or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate by the Health Service.

An employer may also require a higher qualification in the specialist nursing field where such qualification is considered essential for the performance of the individual position.


_Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing._

_ All NSW Health workers are required to have completed a primary course of a COVID-19 vaccine which has been approved or recognised by the Therapeutics Goods Administration (TGA). Additionally, Category A workers are required to receive a booster dose three months after completing the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations. New applicants must have completed the vaccination course prior to commencement with NSW Health, or provide an approved medical contraindication certificate (IM011 immunisation medical exemption form) certifying the worker cannot have any approved COVID-19 vaccines available in NSW._

_ Acceptable proof of vaccination is the Australian Immunisation Register (AIR) Immunisation History Statement or AIR COVID-19 Digital Certificate. Booster doses are highly recommended for all health care workers who have completed the primary course of COVID-19 vaccinations._

Selection Criteria:


  • Current Authority to Practice as a Registered Nurse, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia and current NSW Drivers License and a willingness to drive.
  • Proven clinical leadership skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in nursing practice.
  • Minimum seven years full time equivalent post qualification experience, with at least five years full time equivalent experience in the palliative care, neurological and/or disability field and post graduate qualifications relevant to the field of practice.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by the initiation, utilisation and review of evidence based research.
  • Demonstrated leadership in strategic and clinical service planning and expertise in the management of organisational and cultural change.
  • Proven advanced skills in clinical teaching, competency in the use of contemporary information systems and evidence of ability to direct the development of educational programs.
  • Proven clinical expertise in complex clientcentred consultancy with the ability to work independently.
