We are looking for a strong passionate people leader to lead Resource Development's Operations team within Rio Tinto Iron Ore.

This role is a great opportunity to be part of a multi-disciplinary team evaluating Tier One iron ore deposits in one of the world's great mineral provinces.


As the
Manager Operations, you will be a significant leader within the Resource Development team, this opportunity provides an enormous span of control right across the Pilbara.

We need your passion and investment in safety and people as a priority, and your experience leading large and diverse teams.


In addition to your own team, you will lead a team of experienced partners focused on safe execution of all earthwork, drilling and geophysics programs for resource development.

Based in Perth with frequent weekly site travel to the Pilbara (three days per week), this role has the following key responsibilities:

  • Leading site-based operational teams to ensure that Resource Development programs are delivered in accordance with the plan and schedule, to the highest standard of quality and safety;
  • Overseeing onsite contractor management with multiple earthworks, drilling and geophysical logging contractor partners;
  • Owning applicable standards around execution and drilling, such as ensuring conformance to plan meeting all environmental and legal obligations associated with the role.;
  • Developing safety leadership, supervision, contract management and project management capability within the Operations Team in Resource Development;
  • Setting the team up for future success, driving a sustainable productivity agenda;
  • Working in partnership with various Planning and Technical teams within Resource Development, and external stakeholders (contractor partners, Mines, Studies) to ensure delivery of Resource Development's business plan;
  • Forming part of Resource Development's Leadership Team to ensure overall delivery of the plan and development of team capability.

Your well developed leadership skills will be required as you lead multiple operational teams across numerous resource development work fronts.

A collaborative style, one adaptable to change, whom has a strong understanding of contract management and delivering results with partners is highly desirable.

Past demonstrated experience leading large operational teams, and or exploration programs is desierable.
