We hire for Defence Science and Technology Group all year round.

The Service Provider shall provide specialist and technical Food Science and Technology services related to current and future Defence Feeding capabilities.


The services may include but not limited to:
'¢ Lead, plan, co-ordinate, monitor, review and contribute to new product development, process validation, quality assurance and serviceability activities for food and feeding systems;'¢ Conduct test and evaluation of food and packaging, which may include sensory, physico-chemical, robustness shelf life and challenge testing;'¢ Conduct defect and labelling/branding inspections;'¢ Operate food processing and packaging equipment, including microwave assisted thermal sterilisers;'¢ Modelling and optimising food processing conditions;'¢ Participate in food evaluation (sensory/taste panel) activities;'¢ Statistically analyse and interpret sensory, physical, chemical, nutrient, microbiological, mechanical and shelf life data on food and packaging and report findings with respect to safety, quality, acceptability and suitability;'¢ Communicate research activities and findings to Defence and scientific communities through formal reports, ad hoc advice, journal publications and conference presentations, as a sole or contributing author;'¢ Provide advice and guidance on legislative, ethical and organisational requirements relevant to Defence feeding solutions;'¢ Write and review specifications and standards related to food and packaging for shelf-stable, pre-packaged feeding systems;'¢ Write and review technical risk assessments related to food and feeding systems;'¢ Perform laboratory support functions for the acquisition, commissioning, calibration and maintenance of equipment and consumables, develop and maintain laboratory documentation and records including standard operating procedures and work instructions, and contribute to laboratory safety and quality systems;'¢ Prepare, execute and finalise activities in support of field work trialling of foods and feeding concepts; including undertaking or contributing to the development of trial plans, surveys and interviews, focus group discussions, ethics submissions, data collection, data analysis and validation;'¢ Investigate conventional techniques and technological advances in food formulation, food processing, packaging and fortification to innovate and safe guard fresh, pre-packed and shelf-stable foods. Techniques/technologies include encapsulation, thermal and non-thermal processing for sterilisation, drying, agglomeration, active, modified and smart packaging/labelling, nanotechnology, sensor technology and 3D printing.

Services are provided by personnel holding tertiary qualifications in a relevant scientific field (such as nutrition, chemistry, consumer sciences, food engineering, packaging, statistics and more broadly food science), with experience in technical, research and management tasks related to the statement of work/contract.

Services are to be provided commensurate with relevant Australian and International Standards, regulations, and Defence requirements.
Service providers are to employ industry best practice when undertaking the Services.
