Superintendent Structural Integrity (SI) & Dust

  • Leadership role with exposure to all Rio Tinto Iron Ore operations from pit to port
  • The opportunity to develop strategic and leadership skills in a supportive team
  • Based in Perth on a Monday to Friday roster with travel to our Pilbara Operations

About the role


This role is a great opportunity for a driven individual to lead a dynamic team which is responsible for the coordinated management of the Structural Integrity (SI) and Dust programs to achieve strategic objectives and deliver positive outcomes to the organisation.


Responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

  • Management of Structural Integrity (SI) and Dust program level risks and portfolio
  • Act as the crossdepartmental and collaboration link between site stakeholders, Perthbased technical teams, and the individual Sustaining Capital project delivery leaders
  • Develop improvement strategies for streamlining inspection and reporting required to define the structural integrity debt and the dust improvement scope to enable efficient prioritised execution of the capital delivery across Rio Tinto assets
  • Develop a sustainable remediation pipeline portfolio which includes external contracting organisations in conjunction with Rio Tinto Procurement
  • Manage Stakeholder relationships, including Senior Management within Sustaining Capital as well as Senior Management within site operations and contracting partners
  • Oversee significant or contractual disputes
  • Investigate innovative methods of structural remediation
  • Update, monitor and report on program metrics
  • Develop 5year forecast plans to align with business risks and priorities
  • Oversee and coach a team of regional program leads and coatings (quality) advisors and coordinate efforts between the projects
  • Guide the delivery leads on the right approaches to achieve the economies of scale and return on investment for the overall Structural Integrity (SI) and Dust programs.

About you
To succeed in this role, you will be required to demonstrate:

  • Qualification in Civil/Structural Engineering with a previous track record of success in the mining industry managing structural remediation
  • Extensive Project Management experience on SMP projects
  • Sound knowledge of quality assurance processes,
  • Working knowledge in MS Project & Primavera P
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships
  • Negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • A commitment to development and continuous improvement

Where you'll be working
The Project Delivery Team as part of Sustaining Capital actively encourages and supports flexible work. This includes workdays, hours, and location, in addition to flexible and part-time work schedules. Occasional site travel will be required in this role.
