The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is an independent statutory authority established by the Australian Government to maintain an impartial and independent electoral system for eligible voters through active electoral roll management, efficient delivery of polling services, and targeted education and public awareness programs.

The Team


The AEC's Property portfolio contains a large and diverse footprint to support a nationally dispersed network and agile workforce, and where the portfolio expands and contracts to meet our operation needs on both long and short term basis.

The Property and Facilities Management Team is responsible for maintaining all AEC offices nationally, including the provision of facility management services and associated infrastructure


This includes:

  • Manage contracts for a variety of property management services, including but not limited to, building, recycling, cleaning, and emergency services.
  • Manage agency facility management services, including ensuring that all property maintenance and facilities issues are rectified in line with contractual arrangements and agency requirements.
  • Working with our outsourced property providers.
  • Ensuring compliance with property related Commonwealth property policy requirements including implementing environmental and sustainable practices; and
  • Managing the AEC's property surge requirements regarding electoral events.

The Opportunity


The Facilities Manager supports the Assistant Director - Leasing and Facilities, in the day to day operations of the property management and facilities functions within the Property Management and Facilities section of the Strategic Priorities Branch.


The role is responsible for undertaking work that is moderately complex to complex and possibly sensitive in nature, under limited direction, utilising expertise and knowledge within the area of property management and planning, facilities, procurement and contract management activities in relation to the agency property portfolio.


To excel you'll have:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience working in a Property Services environment.
  • Sound judgement and demonstrated ability to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
  • Experience in successfully setting priorities and delivering quality results on time, within budget and to agreed standards.
  • Proven ability to communicate effectively whilst anticipating stakeholder needs and expectations across a geographically dispersed network.
  • Proven analytical skills with the ability to propose and facilitate change and contribute to business improvement strategies.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage staff including to develop capabilities, encourage career development and promote professionalism.
  • Demonstrated personal integrity whilst achieving results within legislative and policy parameters.
  • Relevant qualifications and/or knowledge and experience working in a Property Services environment.
