Business Support Manager - Medical Imaging and Pathology
This position is

  • Based at our Sunshine Campus and will at times require travel to Footscray Hospital.
  • Permanent / Part Time position 48 hours fortnight


Western Health Medical Imaging (WHMI) provides state of the art comprehensive Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology services to one of the most culturally dynamic and rapidly expanding growth corridors in Australia.

WHMI currently performs approximately 175,000 Medical Imaging examinations per annum. WHMI is committed to experienced and committed team of Consultant Radiologists and Medical Imaging professionals.


WHMI operates across 3 of the 4 Western Health campuses at: Western Hospital Footscray, Sunshine Hospital and the Williamstown Hospital.

WHMI Medical Imaging services include Computer Tomography (CT), Fluoroscopy, Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Nuclear Medicine, Mammography, Digital Subtraction Angiography (DSA), Ultrasound and Digital X-ray.


WHMI is an accredited member of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) and hold DIAS accreditation with the National Association of Testing Authorities (NATA).

Western Health Pathology services are outsourced to a commercial provider. There are liaison groups which meet monthly and monitors key performance indicators as well as ensuring quality improvement occurs.


About the Role
The Business Support Manager provides high level support to the Operations Director Medical Imaging and Pathology Contract.

This role supports the business operations and needs of the Medical Imaging Service, and supports work required to monitor and review the Pathology contract.

This role is responsible for maximising service income (largely MBS), improving processes using recognised quality improvement processes, managing projects, minimising expenditure and analysing and reporting activity and service information.


The role has the following key responsibilities within the expected duties:

  • Provide monitoring and review of Pathology Contract conditions within the Pathology Services Agreement
  • Attend the monthly pathology service contract liaison group meetings
  • Assist Operations Director and Divisional Director with collaborative resolution of Pathology Contract issues
  • Benchmark with other health services to improve service delivery.
  • Generate or assist with generation of Policies, Procedures and Guidelines pertinent to MI and Pathology contract
  • Assist with resolution of patient invoice queries for Pathology
  • Review, identify and develop initiatives for quality improvement and productivity using recognised quality improvement processes and techniques. Document these initiatives with the use of Western Health Quality improvement program or other agreed methodology
  • Monitor trends by analysing the number, type & frequency of Pathology & Medical Imaging tests ordered
  • Analyse complex data sets and communicate resultant investigations clearly
  • Prepare reports as required, including individual monthly report, quarterly reports, business plan updates and contribute to monthly departmental meetings
  • Monitor and stay abreast of business activities within the network, making recommendations for improvement and development where appropriate and necessary
  • Review and evaluate progress against business delivery targets by effective project management
  • Ensure agreed elements of the services plan are achieved
  • Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget.
  • Work as part of the service management team to support and deliver agreed MI and Pathology Contract KPI's
  • Review and evaluate progress against business delivery targets by effective project management
  • Proactively monitor leasing and other contracts for MI and Pathology; ensure timely review and action on expiring leases.
  • Use the EPACE system to load, monitor and ensure contracts are in the system in a timely manner
  • Use the BCOSS to load business cases
