Role:


The Learning Specialist is a highly skilled classroom practitioner who continues to spend the majority of their time in the classroom delivering high-quality teaching and learning and has a range of responsibilities related to their expertise, including teaching demonstration lessons, observing and providing feedback to other teachers and facilitating school-based professional learning.


Learning Specialists are expected to have deep knowledge and expertise in high quality teaching and learning in delivering improved achievement, engagement and wellbeing for students.

The role of the Learning Specialist will be to model excellence in teaching and learning through demonstration lessons, and mentoring and coaching teachers in improving the skill, knowledge and effectiveness of the teaching workforce.

The Learning Specialist role is aimed at building excellence in teaching and learning within the Teaching Service.

Learning Specialists' professional conduct is characterised by the positive quality of the relationships they have with their learners, the parents / carers of their learners, and families, communities and their colleagues.

They are supportive, cooperative and professional team members.


SPECIFIC POSITION DESCRIPTION

The
Learning Specialist:

Student Voice and Agency will focus on demonstrating and modelling best classroom practice with a particular expertise in the delivery and implementation of student voice and agency.

This will include the development of a whole school approach to student voice and agency both within the classroom and student leadership bodies.


Responsibilities:


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Demonstrating high-level expertise in teaching and learning practice;
Modelling exemplary classroom practice including through teaching demonstration lessons;
Leading and modelling the implementation of whole school improvement, including the use of the GWSC Instructional Model and DET High Impact Teaching strategies;
Modelling effective professional learning practice and supporting teachers to seek, analyse and act on feedback on their practice;
Playing a key role in the provision of professional learning and supporting professional learning teams within the college and KLA meeting structure;
Lead the development and implementation of the whole school Student Voice and Agency plan;
Build teacher confidence to seek and enact student feedback in their classroom practice;
Develop consistent whole school strategies which foster authentic student voice and agency in all classrooms across the college;
Work alongside students to develop a whole school reflection and goal setting process to empower students in their learning;
Work alongside students to lead the creation of the GWSC Learner Model;
Work alongside the Learning Specialists for Pedagogy to build teacher confidence in using student voice and agency in informing pedagogical choices;
Oversight of any school program that actively promotes student voice and agency;
Lead and coordinate student body groups as negotiated with the College Principal eg SRC and PAG;
Attendance at school events such as Information Nights, Award Ceremonies, Student show cases etc;
Communicate with the College Community through the COMPASS, GWSC News, College Handbook (staff and students), and website promoting Student Voice and Agency within the College;
Any other duties as directed by the principal;
Provide a child safe environment
