This role is an Australia-based, fully work-from-home position, with access to co-working spaces in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.


The Payroll Officer is responsible for processing the monthly and weekly pay runs, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of payroll system data and assisting staff and management with all payroll related queries.

This role plays a critical part in maintaining compliance with tax regulations, and financial reporting.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Payroll Processing:
  • Accurately process and reconcile employee timesheets and salaries.
  • Calculate and enter adjustments, including overtime, bonuses, other compensation components for accuracy.
  • Process new employee's contracts and terminations (from a payroll perspective).
  • Prepare and send out pay slips to employees in a timely manner.
  • Maintain and update employee payroll data in the payroll system.
  • Ensure accurate balances for leave balances, superannuation and other employee benefits.
  • Work closely with the People and Finance Team to ensure alignment between payroll and HR records.
  • Compliance and reporting:
  • Prepare and process all State and Federal tax obligations, including PAYG tax, Payroll tax, Workcover and Superannuation Guarantee contributions.
  • Ensure timely and accurate submission of tax payments to relevant authorities.
  • Stay updated on relevant awards, legislation, and regulations pertaining to payroll to ensure compliance.
  • Assist with monthend reporting processes, including reconciliation and financial reporting.
  • Assist in annual reporting requirements with the ATO.
  • Payroll Enquiries:
  • Address general payroll inquiries from employees, providing guidance on pay interpretation and procedures.
  • Resolve payrollrelated issues promptly and efficiently.
  • Record Maintenance:
  • Maintain accurate and uptodate employee records in the payroll system.
  • Regularly file and archive payroll information, ensuring data security and accessibility.
  • System Maintenance:
  • Assist in testing and implementation of payroll system upgrades and improvements.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years experience in a similar role
  • Comprehensive understanding of Modern Awards for their specific industry
  • Knowledge of general payroll practices, procedures, operations, and legislation
  • Experience with Employment Hero is preferable
  • Experience processing both weekly and monthly pay run cycles for company size of 500+ employees
  • Bachelor Degree in Finance or Economics, Certificate III in Business or Certificate III in Financial Services can be advantageous
  • Advanced computer skills including, Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Excellent attention to detail and data accuracy.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to investigate issues and find solutions.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling sensitive payroll information.
  • Ability to work autonomously as well as part of a broader team.
