About the role:


The Environment Protection Officer is a member of a team responsible for EPA's on-ground regulatory response in the region, including education, compliance monitoring and inspections, and managing non-compliance via regulatory notices and enforcement action.

You will actively contribute to a positive organisational culture and ensure you achieve the highest standards of performance and integrity; and foster genuine partnerships across all levels of government, industry, and community to support the delivery organisational outcomes.


In this role you will:


  • Under the direction of the Team Leader, Environment Protection, and supported by Senior Environment Protection Officers, use your initiative, and prioritise tasks to deliver regulatory actions to prevent harm to communities and environment from pollution and waste through education and engagement, compliance monitoring and inspections, and managing noncompliance with environmental laws via regulatory notices and enforcement action.
  • Actively contribute to the development of a positive and high performing team culture, including by identifying and implementing opportunities to improve teamwork practices.
  • Actively support the conduct of investigations; and the delivery of preventative projects and compliance programs aligned to EPA's regulatory priorities.
  • Participate in the response to environmental and public health emergencies and incidents.
  • Work collaboratively with coregulators, duty holders, communities, local governments, and other partners to drive improved environmental and public health outcomes; and provide local intelligence to inform EPA's strategic regulatory priorities.

Skills and experience:


  • A relevant tertiary degree or qualification is desirable.
  • Ability to be present at times and locations as required to successfully perform the role. This is usually satisfied by the possession of a current Victorian driver's licence.
  • Successful completion of Authorised Officer and Field Response Officer training (onjob), or completion within a reasonable time frame from commencement in the role.
  • Ability to deliver regulatory operations to meet organisational objectives.
