Your Opportunity


The Strong Families, Safe Kids Advice and Referral Line (SFSK) is a contact point for people seeking advice and assistance if they have concerns about children, young people, and their family.

The service provides information, advice, and referral for services across Tasmania as well as providing timely responses for children at risk, where the family may be referred to the Child Safety Service for further assessment.


Co-located at St Johns Park, New Town, your role as the Team Leader within the SFSK Advise and Referral Line will be responsible for leading one of seven teams of approximately 6 staff who provide phone-based support for a diverse range of professionals and community members, who are seeking support and wishing to raise concerns for children and young people.


Your Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the local team in the delivery of program requirements to clients, as per the agreed operating procedures and guidelines
  • Work collaboratively with other team leaders across the program to ensure the full range of support services are available to families
  • Provide expert advice to stakeholders on a range of complex and sensitive issues and assist others in the resolution of conflict
  • Support the team when working with challenging clients while maintaining strong professional boundaries
  • Triage community queries ranging from simple queries to full complex scenarios that require escalation
  • Assist staff with the daytoday running of the service by providing supervision, debriefing, and program support in line with program outcomes

Requirements for Success
With a significant background in leading and managing teams in a complex service delivery setting and/or in the child, youth & family sector, you will be confident in your values-based leadership and workforce planning


Other requirements include:

  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of working with vulnerable people and the issues impacting them such as AOD, FDV, Homelessness and Mental Health issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide supervision to employees and provide expert advice to employees at lower levels.
  • Experience working with a matrix management system multiple lines of managers internally and externally.
  • Maintain selfcare and build individual & team resilience for dealing with trauma.
  • Keen ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience and understanding of compliance requirements such as quality audits, continuous improvement, planning and facilitation.
  • Full driver licence with no restrictions


Before starting work with us, you will need to undertake a national police history check, qualifications and referee checks, and have a clearance to work with children/vulnerable people and child-safe certificate.
