Why your role matters


The Research Strategy Office (RSO) works with Faculties, research teams and researchers to initiate, facilitate and secure new national and international research funding bids and Fellowships, to enhance UNSW's research profile and increase the level, quality and diversity of research funding.


Reporting to the Senior Research Development Manager, you'll provide strategic assistance to researchers in regard to competitive research funding proposals and strategic grant scheme training, with a focus on the Australian Research Council (ARC), and other national agencies that fund research.


Collaborating effectively at a high level with researchers, funding bodies, potential partners on collaborative research and relevant Faculties and researchers across the University, you'll provide high level project management, administrative support, strategic communication and editorial support to activities undertaken by the Research Strategy Office.

Who you are
You have relevant qualifications and/or extensive experience in a major research funding or Government portfolio, as well as the following Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge and understanding of the higher education sector and knowledge of the research environment and funding schemes, including experience in the strategic review and preparation of proposals in the collaborative research space.
  • Project management, prioritisation and time management skills with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities and deadlines in high volume environments.
  • Problem solving and analytical skills, ability to research and analyse material and identify key issues and produce high level outcomes in both autonomous and teambased activities.
  • Ability to work both collaboratively within a team, and independently, to achieve key performance indicators.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication, negotiation and consultation skills, including an ability to exercise initiative, tact and discretion in dealing with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
  • An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
  • Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training.
