A little bit about us

The Online Safety Branch, and the Platforms and News Branch both sit within the Online Safety, Media and Platforms Division.

This Division provides advice to Government on policy issues that affect the lives of all Australians, including broadcast TV, news media, online safety and digital platforms.

The

Online Safety Branch develops and monitors the online safety framework, within a rapidly changing digital environment, to prevent harm and enable all Australians to connect to online services safely and confidently. We provide advice to the Minister for Communications on a broad range of online safety issues including cyberbullying, image-based abuse, and policy and reporting oversight of the online safety regulator (the eSafety Commissioner). We are interested in both emerging harms and emerging solutions, and our advice balances harms and freedoms.
