About the Opportunity:


We now have an exciting opportunity for a full-time or part-time in-charge Laboratory Technician/Scientist to our Bowen Hills Laboratory in the Mycology section of our Microbiology Department.

In this role you will report directly to Microbiology management.

You will be responsible for supervising staff, directing activities and participating in bench work in the Mycology section, as required, to ensure work is completed efficiently.


You will perform relevant administration duties required for the efficient and effective running of the Mycology testing service, including reporting of results.


Some of your core duties include:

  • Assist Microbiology Quality Manager in the distribution, testing, collation and reporting of external QAP programs.
  • Participate in training and competency assessment of staff in the Mycology section and other staff and trainees as required.
  • Assess, and advise management regarding human and technological resource considerations for the Mycology section.
  • Represent the Mycology section of Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology both internally and externally, exhibiting behaviours consistent with professionalism and the requirements of the Sullivan Nicolaides code of conduct.
  • Attend Quality Management Review Meetings and Microbiology departmental meetings, contributing relevant information regarding the Mycology section.
  • Prepare and deliver educational materials/presentations to internal and external audiences.
  • Participate and work closely with Microbiology management in developing and implementing strategic planning for the Mycology section.
  • Display the ability to regularly update and innovate so that best practice in all areas of the Mycology section processes is achieved.

About You:


To be successful in this role, you will have
appropriate qualifications in medical laboratory science (or equivalent) and a demonstrated ability to supervise and manage a team and demonstrated ability to succeed with management responsibilities.

You will have a strong ability to work in a fast-paced environment, time manage and provide excellence in customer service, possessing the following:

  • Theoretical knowledge of Mycology testing practices and procedures.
  • Established understanding of both the theory and practical skills within mycology and proven ability to perform highly technical and intricate procedures within this area of study.
  • Sound knowledge of pathology practices, policies, and NPAAC/NATA and WH&S requirements.
