About the Role


Sunshine Coast Council is looking for a Wellbeing, Health and Safety Manager to lead the wellbeing, health and safety function from strategy to delivery.


Further to this, you will:

Provide thought leadership in contemporary WHS theory, best practice and effective implementation of wellbeing, health and safety to place Sunshine Coast Council at the forefront of contemporary practice;
Ensure that the safety management system is contemporary, risk based and supports compliance with statutory obligations;
Lead the WHS governance and reporting to ensure consistent, proactive and effective delivery of wellbeing, health and safety, that supports due diligence and the discharge of obligations, and enables insightful decision making;
Lead the maturation of Council's safety culture to reflect best practice and contemporary practice throughout a large, diverse organisation;
Measure, monitor and report on the wellbeing, health and safety performance and the effectiveness of the WHS strategy and programs;
Coach, mentor and liaise with key stakeholders within the organisation to ensure they understand their obligations and due diligence, providing training programs both formal and informal; and

Lead the wellbeing, health and safety team to ensure sufficient capability, capacity and performance.

About you


You'll be an effective leader, with a commitment to empowering your team, managing team functions with excellence and building strong working relationships.


Further to this, you will have:
Formal relevant qualifications and extensive relevant experience in wellbeing, health and safety or other relevant discipline;
Experience in leading a WHS function in a large and diverse organisation with a proven track record consistently delivering business results and maturing safety culture;
Strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to positively lead and empower others, drive high performance, develop and coach team members, and foster a workplace culture consistent with Council's corporate values;
High level interpersonal and communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of advocacy, influence, consultation, building effective relationships and teams, and negotiation; and


Strong strategy and policy writing skills with demonstrated ability to undertake leading edge research, data analysis and prepare high level reports and correspondence.
