We have successfully supplied quality staff to both State and Local Government departments and Private organisations on the Darling Downs and surrounds since 1995.


Our client, a Government agency based in Dalby, is currently seeking a Work Health and Safety Coordinator to commence immediately for a full-time, permanent position.


Salary Package
$80, Step 1) 9 day/fortnight

$88, Step 3) 19 day/4 week cycle plus superannuation plus leave loading.


Operating within the Human Resources department, this role is responsible for promoting a dynamic, resilient and innovative safety culture throughout a local Government department by being actively involved and integrating with all levels of business within the organisation.


Key Responsibilities

  • Providing expert safety advice using business acumen to internal and external customers regarding best practice safety procedures and initiatives
  • Developing engagement initiatives to integrate and build relationships with all levels of the business on a regular and ongoing basis as part of promoting a dynamic safety culture and cohesive team environment
  • Developing a chain of responsibility safety culture by actively participating and being involved in resolutions that support the welfare of employees and ensure that everyone understands their responsibilities and is accountable for their own actions
  • Building internal capability by sharing information to development corrective and preventative actions that result from risk assessments, site inspections, audits, and incident investigations
  • Conducting site safety inductions across the region, corporate onboarding, and other WH&S training for all employees, volunteers and contractors who perform work
  • Actively promoting and finding ways to engage with staff at toolbox talks across all worksites
  • Reviewing and effectively marketing safety documentation and safe work procedures to ensure compliance with current legislative requirements as well as conformance with Council's policies
  • Ensuring that sites comply with storage requirements and safe handling of chemicals and hazardous substances
  • Undertaking drug and alcohol screening of workers and contractors
  • Working with the existing Safety Management systems so that they are utilised to their best advantage and assisting in the development and maintenance of such systems
  • Coordinating employee return to work and rehabilitation programs whilst maintaining a proactive approach to injury management
  • Reporting of key performance indicators to assist in the identification of trends and allow for a strategic approach to solutions
  • Ensuring contracted parties meet contractual obligations and maintain acceptable WH&S standards
  • Ensuring that effective policies, procedures, systems and services are implemented and promoted to provide and maintain the highest level of safety awareness, workplace health, injury prevention and rehabilitation across all of Council operations and functions
  • Monitoring safety equipment and personal protective equipment to ensure its effectiveness

Proven/Demonstrated experience in:


  • High level of knowledge and understanding of all related WH&S, Workers Compensation and Rehabilitation legislation
  • Thinking laterally with a focus on innovative solutions to WH&S issues and continuous improvement within Safety to provide a high quality professional, consistent and cohesive service
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft Office suite and the ability to work with existing safety management systems
  • Demonstrated experience in driving a dynamic safety culture and leading change by being actively involved, and influencing all levels of staff
  • Highly developed oral and written communication skills including excellent negotiation, conflict resolution and problemsolving skills, as well as, the capacity to build and maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Understanding of current and cutting edge safety culture processes.

Required Knowledge / Qualifications A person in this position will need to hold a:

  • relevant Degree or Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, OR be able to demonstrate equivalent related experience; and
- current drivers' licence.
- minimum of three (3) years' experience as a WH&S Advisor with a multi-disciplinary organisation; and
- current Queensland Rehabilitation Coordinator Certificate, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, and WH&S Auditor Certificate.
