The role As the Executive Director, you will provide strategic and operational leadership for the Office of the Director-General (DG) and the provision of an extensive range of time sensitive, confidential, strategically significant initiatives for the DG and the Office of the Minister for Health, Mental Health and Ambulance Services and Minister for Women.

In this important senior executive position that coordinates matters across the Department and the Queensland Health system more broadly, you will report to the DG and as a member of the Executive Leadership Team work closely and collegiately with your colleagues and Hospital and Health Services leaders to oversee the management of critical issues, strategic projects, innovations and priority programs that have system-wide implications.


You will:


  • Lead an extensive range of time sensitive, confidential, strategically significant initiatives.
  • Lead priority program areas including Estimates preparation and coordination, the Ethical Standards Unit and management of stakeholder relationships with government executive leaders across Queensland and Australia.
  • Operationally lead the workplan and priorities for the DG's office, including executive services functions and specific issues management on behalf of the DG.
  • Establish and maintain wideranging relationships with the Office of the Minister, Deputy Directors
  • General, Board Chairs, Health Service Chief Executives and other key stakeholders.
  • Provide comprehensive, high level, strategic issues management and wholeofdepartment coordination in response to major emergent situations, both through executive government processes and in responding more broadly to issues that arise.
  • Provide strong, dynamic leadership to the Office of the DG with a focus on high performance, development, timeliness and efficiency.
The successful person will have

  • Demonstrated success as a strategic leader responsible for the management and delivery of priority programs and highly sensitive matters within a large and complex organisation, preferably in the health sector.
  • An outstanding track record in working and exercising judgement in a highpressure environment responsive to government and have the proven ability to bring together and synthesize information from various stakeholders to formulate advice to senior stakeholders, including Ministers, Directors-General and/or Chief Executives.
  • Excellent executive level leadership and knowledge of contemporary, bestpractice executive services management.
  • Highly developed consultative, interpersonal, negotiation and communication skills to lead and develop a strong and cohesive team and to effectively engage, mediate and negotiate at senior and executive levels across a complex and diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate as a collegial and collaborative member of a multidisciplinary executive to achieve strategic priorities.


About usThe Office of the DG and Department of Health is responsible for managing the public health system in Queensland, including: regulating health services; monitoring, developing and deploying programs to improve the health of Queenslanders; coordinating health services through Hospital and Health Services and non-government organisations; providing ambulance services; and working with other state and national agencies on policies and programs to improve the health of Queenslanders.

The Office of the DG through the Ministerial and Executive Services Unit, including the System and Departmental Liaison and System Secretariat functions, coordinates the flow of information across Queensland Health and externally to stakeholders; manages incoming health enquiries and correspondence, complaints and customer feedback, and provides secretariat and administrative support to key forums, Boards of Management and departmental committees.

The Division is also responsible for the whole of system preparation, coordination and provision of high-level expert and strategic advice to the Minister, DG, Hospital and Health Service Chief Executives and other health statutory agencies on the annual Estimates hearings.
