Position Summary

The Business and Communications Group comprises four units which support the organisation by providing

Human Resource (HR), internal and external communications, website, finance, payroll, and accommodation

services.

The People and Facilities Unit (PFU) provides internal client service and support for workplace relations,

recruitment, learning and development, work health and safety, workforce reporting, staff performance,

reception, and facilities.

We are a small team with a fun and collaborative culture. We provide a supportive environment where

We are seeking HR professionals experienced in a range of HR functions, for one new position and one

vacancy. Initially, the new position will mainly support the agency-specific EA bargaining process and align

AIHW HR policies with any new APS-wide policies. You will use your knowledge and experience to gather,

analyse, and interpret information to provide recommendations that positively shape our EA and HR policies,

drive change, and improve HR services. The current vacancy may support any of the AIHW's HR functions,

a merit pool due to expected growth over the next 12 months.

We are seeking people with experience in one or more of the following HR functions:

  • HR policy review and development
  • Workforce reporting and planning
  • Performance management
  • Learning and Development
You will have experience in managing and delivering key HR projects and initiatives and be able to develop

and maintain working relationships across the organisation. You will have the ability to be responsive,

adaptable, and resourceful within a busy team.

We are looking for people who are passionate about HR, who can be flexible and work under pressure in a

small team environment. While all members of the HR team are currently located in Canberra, there may be

an opportunity for one of the APS6 positions to be based in our Sydney office.

Selection Criteria


  • Proven experience in, and sound knowledge of, APS HR functions including the ability to understand
and interpret employment legislation, policies, and procedures, and the ability to incorporate this

knowledge into the continuous improvement of agency-specific HR policies and processes.


  • Strong leadership qualities that demonstrate the ability to lead or support a small team to achieve
desired outcomes.


  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including the ability to provide forthright advice
and negotiate mutually beneficial outcomes, and professionally present
