About us
Transport for NSW keeps our State moving by providing safe, integrated and efficient transport systems. We put our customers at the centre of everything we do - and we do a lot.

We connect people, communities and industry and manage how they use our road, rail and maritime networks and services, and even active modes like walking and cycling.

The work we do connects the journeys you take every day.

We are a state government organisation made up of more than 28,000 people and we're in the middle of delivering the largest transport infrastructure program in Australia's history.

We work across planning, policy and procurement, harnessing data and technology to develop smarter and more adaptive transport solutions.

That means job opportunities in metropolitan and regional areas across NSW - and you have the chance to be part of creating a lasting legacy that will benefit generations to come.

About the team

The Infrastructure and Place division is in the process of delivering a once-in-a generation multi-billion program of public infrastructure works which will ease congestion, improve safety, create new places and connect communities for generations to come.

We are dedicated and passionate team that is proud of the work we do and the supportive and flexible team culture we have built.

About the project
The M1 Pacific Motorway extension to Raymond Terrace addresses a key 'missing link' between Sydney and Brisbane.

The existing M1 Motorway, New England Highway and Pacific Highway carry some of the highest traffic volumes across the Hunter.

This would bypass the congestion and merge points along this corridor and is predicted to reduce traffic volumes across the existing network.

The proposed extension would also reduce traffic volumes on the New England Highway which would improve traffic flow and access for motorists travelling between Newcastle and Maitland.

This $2.1bn Australian and NSW governments funded project includes 15kms of dual carriageway and provides motorway access from the existing road network from four new interchanges at Black Hill, Tarro, Tomago and Raymond Terrace.

The project also includes a 2.6km viaduct over the Hunter River and floodplain, the Main North Rail Line, and the New England Highway.

Once complete, the extension will remove up to 25,000 vehicles a day from key congestion

The major construction phase of the extension will be delivered using two design and construct (D&C) contracts to ensure innovation, efficiency and value for money in the delivery of the project.

The delivery of the project is expected to create 2700 jobs during construction.

The opportunity

Right now, we have two Project Delivery Director opportunities for a Delivery Director and a Deputy Project Director to join our Regional Infrastructure Development Branch of Infrastructure and Place division.

Based in Newcastle, the roles will closely work in with the Project Director and in partnership with our future delivery contractors.

The Delivery Director will be responsible for the resolution of complex project issues with the Proponent consortia, internal Transport for NSW branches and various Government agencies as applicable and for leading high-level consultations and negotiations, whilst the Deputy Project Director will be responsible for overseeing and directing an effective relationship management strategy across multiple businesses, utilities and other infrastructure owner interfaces to achieve optimum performance outcomes.

As we journey into the future and as we are truly looking to build a diverse workforce, flexible work environment where differences are valued will be a key attribute for the success of the project.
