AHP2 ($86,950 - $100,729 p/a + Super), PO2 ($86,950 - $96,223 p/a) + 11% Superannuation

The Department for Child Protection is seeking an
Aboriginal Youth Engagement Officer.

The role is responsible for:

  • Promoting the rights of Aboriginal young people in Residential Care, ensuring that the young people are consulted in decisions which affect them.
  • Establishing and maintaining a Residential Care Young Persons' Group in collaboration with the Youth Engagement Officer, Residential Care.
  • Providing information to Residential Care staff in relation to resources and services that will assist them to strengthen Aboriginal children and young people's connection to culture.
  • Ensuring practice is viewed through a cultural lens and that connection to culture, family and community remains a central focus.
  • Developing, implementing and evaluating culturallyresponsive and culturallysafe programs and activities that are relevant, appropriate and accessible to Aboriginal children and young people.

About You


We are looking for a confident individual with experience developing a range of programs and providing practical advice on a wide range of residential care practices to meet young people's needs.


The ability to analyse complex situations and problems and make professional recommendations for the creation of long term solutions is a desirable trait for this role.


To be successful in this role, you will have the ability to initiate opportunities and identify innovative ways to keep young people positively engaged and to resolve issues during interactions with young people.

Special Conditions

Essential Qualifications:


AHP:

A degree level qualification in Social Work which gives eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers.


PO:
Appropriate degree qualification in Community Services, Social Sciences, Human Services, Health or related field.
