The Bureau provides a wide range of products and services to support informed decision-making by governments, emergency services, industry and the community.

Our products and services include a dynamic range of observations, forecasts, warnings, analysis and advice covering Australia's atmosphere, water, oceans and space environments.

We are seeking an experienced Automation Tester to join our Digital team.

You will have previously worked within successful Agile/DevOps teams with the focus on setting up automation testing frameworks from scratch.

You will have strong hands-on experience in projects across both manual and automation testing environments, having delivered within a collaborative Agile/Lean development environment.


You will need to be skilled in setting up automation frameworks with both open source and licensed tools in an enterprise environment.


To be successful in this role you will be up to date with best practices and enthusiastic about Lean/Agile culture.

You will have extensive knowledge of industry standard functional and non-functional testing tools.


Good communication skills, ability to work well as part of a team and excellent attention to detail are all important for this role.

In order to be considered for this role you will need:

  • Experience with open source and commercial automation tools, frameworks and scripting languages such as (but not limited to) Selenium, Detox, Apium, FitNesse, Cucumber and Watir, Gatling
  • Excellent understanding of modern web software development languages, e.g., JavaScript, PHP, Python, Perl and NodeJS
  • Significant test automation experience including writing scripts
  • Proficient in providing Test documentation like TSR, Test Plan etc
  • Proficient in white box testing, black box testing, performance testing, load testing, unit testing, contract testing and integration testing
  • Proficient in Mac/ Windows / Linux / Unix environments
  • Promote and demonstrate core agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, team accountability and visibility
  • Technical experience on large, complex automation projects
  • Ability to work effectively within a cross functional team including designers and developers and product owners
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with Agile/DevOps software development principles
