Ongoing FO-2 Hazardous Materials Management Officer/Forensic Officer role available
HMMU:
Hazardous Materials Management Unit (HMMU) functions include communication, V&T, storage, handling, transport, and disposal of hazardous materials including chemicals, drugs, and cannabis.
- The FO2 position is responsible for providing a quality administration/supportive service to the FEMU/HMMU/FEDU.
Your duties will include
- Assist in the management of exhibits and ensure the maintenance of property records associated with the receipt, examination and destruction of exhibits are maintained in accordance with policy and procedures.
- Assist in undertaking regular audits and risk management reporting on the safety, storage, and operation of the onsite exhibit storage facilities.
- Assist in managing and coordinating the destruction program for exhibits seized by Victoria Police.
- Under direction and as part of a team assist in the coordination, safety and supervision of persons working with Hazardous materials (including chemicals).
- Coordinate the maintenance and restocking of equipment, including Personal Protection Equipment required by Branch personnel both within the onsite hazardous substances storage facilities and at crime scenes.
- Assist with the analysis of substances using welldefined methods and procedures under direction and supervision as part of a team including assisting at crime scenes where required.
- Be responsible for the regular maintenance of scientific equipment, including monitoring the daily quality performance of equipment within defined parameters.
- Present supportive evidence of fact in Courts of Law regarding exhibit tracking/management/destruction, as required.
As the successful applicant, you will have:
- Proven scientific/technical knowledge in relevant discipline (preferably chemistry) with an ability to undertake scientific/technical examinations following established procedures.
- Demonstrated understanding of forensic science and the importance of occupational health & safety, exhibit integrity and quality documentation practices.
- Ability to liaise with key suppliers to ensure the selection and approved purchase of laboratory consumables and small equipment.
- Demonstrated experience within a large volume computerised records and information management system with the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records operating in a confidential environment.
- Understanding of the customer service requirements of the position and a demonstrated record of strong commitment and achievement in meeting customer needs.
