The Role
We are looking for a highly motivated technical, insurance, and commercial lawyer to lead the development of innovative new insurance products and then support the business development effort in bringing these products to market.
Our goal is to obtain an Agency Binder with a top-tier Insurer for our Schemes to integrate with our InsurTech product development.
- strong legal technical ability in insurance law and technical claims, commercial contract drafting and PDF, FSG, and system development.- a strong work ethic and the ability to confidently manage competing priorities.
- experience at either front or back end or associate level within private practice and/or in-house legal experience at an insurer or broker
- a proven track record of nurturing productive relationships with local and international insurers and their underwriting brokers
- excellent client service and interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities will include:
- developing new insurance products and schemes.
- drafting PDS and FSG documents and editing non-disclosure agreements and NDAs.
- structuring remuneration agreements with insurers and underwriter brokers, including reinsurance and binders, for the best business outcomes.
- working alongside the managing director to obtain agency or licensing agreements to secure the company's schemes with top-rated insurers for Insurtech products in a quick timeframe.
- claims - running or outsourcing agreements for an interesting and varied caseload in all areas of litigated and non-litigated claims, including files in relation to compensation litigation, product liability, and personal insurance financial line matters including general insurance, accident and health, reinsurance, and our own insurance products; ensure insurer claim agreements comply with regulatory standards and approvals.
- developing and negotiating channel distribution markets for wholesale, group, and retail sales.
- managing in-house legal responsibilities including licensing, compliance, intellectual property protection, general and franchising/reseller channel development contracts, and identifying and developing international product growth and scalability in the local and international insurance markets that give the company competitive advantages.
- completing documentation and managing AFSL requirements, binders, and cover holder status.
- identify risks to the business and implement plans to manage and reduce risks not limited to claims and sales risks (third-line forcing).
- work with Marketing to grow the business to achieve budgeted targets.
- experience in insurance law and the local and international insurance markets.
- excellent contract, policy, and advice drafting skills.
- an ability to manage a busy caseload autonomously.
- strong negotiation skills.
- established relationships with reputable underwriters and brokers onshore and offshore.
- a strong client focus, commercial experience in taking ideas to market, and a willingness to make a significant contribution to the organization's business development effort.
- the ability to manage their personal business development effort.
- Flexible commitment (1 year+) is ideal for this position.
